Amateur Radio Licensing in The Andaman Islands.

The following information was correct at the time of my visit to the Andaman Islands in 2018.

1.      Obtain an Indian license for foreigners – the call-sign will start VU3.

·        There are several forms that need to be completed.

·        You will need an address in India to complete the license application.

·        It is much easier if you can get help from a local Indian ham to assist you with the process and to provide local knowledge.

2.      Get a 'temporary shifting of location' for the licence.

·        This is another administrative step with the licensing authorities.

·        Again, it will be much easier if you can get help from an Indian ham.

·        At this stage you should also request a special callsign (e.g. VU4*).

·        The application needs to include the dates and place of your proposed visit to Andaman.

3.      Obtain permission to operate from the authorities in Andaman.

·        It is better if Indian hams help you with this step.
