I visited Kuredu Beach Resort in the Maldives between June 26th and July 6th 2017 and operated ‘holiday style’ as 8Q7RN during the visit. I had a Yaesu FT-857 and some wires set up on the north side of the island. Unfortunately local QRN (electrical interference, maybe from solar panels or LED lights?) caused huge problems but I managed a number of QSOs on 30, 20 and 17m, all CW.

A nice surprise was being called on the phone by local ham Ibray 8Q7QC, who later visited us – he works for the resort company. I also spoke with Ibray’s friend Ali 8Q7AM by phone.

The vertical antenna, tied to beach furniture and as close to the sea as my coax permits. Band changes are with jumper wires.

Some further ‘holiday snaps showing me, my wife Janet and our non-ham friends Ross and Naz who live in Perth, Australia. The purpose of our holiday was to meet half way.
